The Merkur Arena looks back on a rich history. The first stadium, the Bundesstadion Liebenau, opened here in 1951. In the 1990s, the old stadium was completely rebuilt and named after Styrian-born Arnold Schwarzenegger. After a dispute over the name, it is now called the "Merkur Arena" and, with 16,000 seats, offers the largest stage for football in Graz.
Right next to it: the Merkur Ice Stadium, home of the Graz 99ers and hosts ice hockey, figure skating, and public skating. The arena has been modernized several times, most recently with new changing rooms, LED boards, and optimized acoustics. The proximity of the two sports venues makes them ideal for combining, making the area the sporting heart of Graz-Liebenau.
You don't have to be a Sturm or 99ers fan to get your money's worth here. The atmosphere at home games is electric—a truly memorable experience, even as a tourist.
