The Mugl Wave was founded in 2015 by Canoe Club Graz (KCG) Built with passion and a small budget, they built a flexible wave system in the Mühlgang, which today serves as both a training and competition venue.
The atmosphere? Relaxed and energetic. Anyone who comes here immediately senses that this place isn't an amusement park, but a true community project—by athletes, for athletes. On warm days, spectators gather along the shore, cheering, marveling—or even jumping into the water themselves.
The Mugl Wave is Austria's only permanently available artificial freestyle wave – making it equally interesting for athletes and sports tourists.
Competitions at national and international levels are regularly held here. Among the most popular tricks are the "Air Loop," the "McNasty," and the "Phoenix Monkey" – spectacular twisting and jumping movements that catapult the body completely out of the water.
But even without competition, the wave is worth seeing. The gurgling of the water, the dynamic play with the current, the colors of the boats – all this creates a fascinating spectacle unlike any other city in Austria.
It's best to visit Mugl Wave in the late afternoon or on weekends when there are a lot of freestylers training.
