The landmark of the district – and known far beyond the city limits – is the Basilica Mariatrost. On the Purberg Perched on a hilltop, it is not only one of Austria's most important pilgrimage churches, but also a Baroque masterpiece. The path to the church leads up a monumental staircase with 216 steps – an impressive experience rewarded with magnificent views of the Graz hills. Those who prefer a more leisurely approach can also stroll along gentle paths through the forest to the basilica.

Around the church there is an extensive network of Hiking and walking trails, which leads through mixed forests, clearings, and small settlements. A visit is also worthwhile for families: nearby are the popular GrazMuseum St. Martin's Castle, a small forest nature trail as well as several playgrounds and snack stations that invite you to linger.
