Even from the outside, the shop seems like it's stepped out of time: the handwritten blackboard, the nostalgic shop window, the welcoming entrance. Inside, you'll find carefully stocked shelves, glass counters full of delicacies, and an owner who knows where every product comes from—often even knowing the producers personally. Since 1903 This traditional delicatessen has existed for over a century, and although the world around it has changed, Nussbaumer has remained true to itself – and that is precisely why it is more exciting than ever. The current owner, Anton Tropper, has continued the legacy with sensitivity and combines old craftsmanship with new values: regionality, sustainability and genuine personal service.
The shop itself feels like a small treasure chest: warm light, dark wood, and old wall shelves reaching to the ceiling filled with jars, bottles, baskets, and fragrant specialties. The atmosphere is intimate, tranquil, and yet vibrant—as if you were entering a parallel culinary world.
On Saturday mornings, when the weekly market takes place around Franziskanerplatz, Paradeisgasse also comes alive – a visit to Nussbaumer is especially worthwhile. Ask for a small tasting plate, add a glass of Prosecco, and enjoy a mini picnic on a bench in front of the shop. Old Town flair doesn't get much better than this.
