Frohnleiten's main square is considered one of the most beautiful in the region: lovingly restored town houses, colourful flower arrangements, cafés with outdoor seating and a magnificent view of the Murpromenade make it the ideal starting point for walks through the old town.

Murpromenade & City Park

The Murpromenade runs directly along the river, inviting you to stroll, cycle or linger on one of the many benches. The spacious city park is a green oasis with sculptures, playgrounds, fountains and well-tended flowerbeds - ideal for a short break in the countryside.

Hikes & nature experiences

The area surrounding Frohnleiten is a true hiking paradise. Whether it's a leisurely round to the Schöcklblick, the Bildstockweg or a sporty tour to the Gschwendtberg - there is a suitable route for every level. The Mur Island with its alluvial forest and nature observation points is also worth a detour.

A look back - the history of Frohnleiten

The first documented mention of Frohnleiten dates back to the Year 859. For centuries, the city was an important Trading centre on the Mur - also because of its strategic location between the Graz basin and the Upper Styrian mountains.

The old town centre was extended in the 17th and 18th centuries and has remained so to this day Largely original preserved. Today, Frohnleiten presents itself as a modern, cosmopolitan town with a strong identity, flourishing economy and high quality of life - for guests and locals alike.
